Armies and Ogres, age 8+

Two players, one Army and one Ogre. Lay out the cards in a 5x5 square: Each player has 2 rows with 5 cards each, keeping one empty row between players.

The goal is to get as many cards as you can to the opposite side. Each card can move forward into a blank space, or can attack diagonally, like a pawn in chess. Power cards may move OR attack forward OR diagonally. No card may move sideways or backward. Empty spaces in the bottom row are replaced immediately from the deck.

The lower number in each attack loses and is discarded. If the winner is the attacker, it takes the place of the losing card. If the winner is the defender, it stays where it was. Power cards are worth 12 points, both for attack and final scoring. When a player's card crosses to the opposite side, it goes in his or her win pile. The game ends when one player cannot move. The player with the highest total sum in the win pile wins the game.
